Buford GA Bankruptcy Attorney Keith Cornwell
Have you been thinking about filing for bankruptcy? Not sure where you should start though? Being the founding attorney at Cornwall Law Firm, I completely understand that even just thinking about bankruptcy is too much for some people to handle. For years being bankrupt was seen as a bad thing, but it cannot be a bad thing if it is going to help your current situation.
I have personally helped thousands of people since 2006 here in file Bankruptcy in Buford, GA and it’s surrounding areas. I have been lucky enough to have helped a large number of people who have been laid off, fired or become unemployed. I have seen every possible situation over the years and I can honestly tell you that most of my clients ended up in this position due to no fault of their own. Some of my clients ended up being hospitalized due to illness or an accident, some were laid off and could no longer afford to pay their debts, and some ended up getting divorced due to the stress of the bills piling up each month.
Financial problems cause insomnia, stress and marriage troubles, all of which can take a toll on your happiness and that of your family’s as well. Fortunately, bankruptcy is a very practical and real way to solve your financial issues. It has already helped millions of Americans that found themselves in exactly the same position as you. If you want to get the maximum benefit from filing for a Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy, you may want to learn about the exemptions, the benefits and how bankruptcy can help you keep the creditors from harassing you.
What options do you have?
The two main types of bankruptcy for consumers are Chapter 7 and 13. You will need to take a bankruptcy means test to find out what type you qualify for. It is a basic test that compares your personal income to that of the general population in your state. Should your income be below the guideline, you qualify for Chapter 7 (debt liquidation). This particular option is there mainly for people who do not have an income and those who do not earn anything.
Chapter 13 is considered to be the “debt reorganization” bankruptcy. With this type, your debts will be reorganized so that you only end up paying one monthly amount that you can comfortably afford. This new payment arrangement will be paid directly to your bankruptcy trustee, who will then pay your creditors for you out of the monthly amount they receive from you. A Chapter 13 repayment plan lasts for 3-5 years. It depends on how much you earn and what amount of disposable income you have, but you could possibly end up paying everything or just a portion of the debt back. This is also the solution for people who are at risk of facing foreclosure on their homes, but who want to remain living in their home without worrying that the bank will take their home.
What if filing for bankruptcy is not for you?
I take my job very seriously and I am here to guide clients through the entire bankruptcy process. I am also here to help the people who do not wish to file for bankruptcy, as well as those who cannot see bankruptcy as an option. Filing for bankruptcy is not always the answer for everyone, and I completely understand that it is a very personal decision to make. Some of my clients would rather go with an alternative option like debt settlement or debt negotiation, which makes much more financial sense to them. Should you be interested in rather taking one of these options, I will be more than happy to review these and other alternatives with you.
